Description
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is the second highest-ranking scout in the troop. He acts as the Senior Patrol Leader in his absence or when called upon. He is the "right-hand-man" of the SPL and also provides leadership to the other youth leaders in the troop.
Comments
The most important part of the ASPL's job is his ability to support the SPL in troop leadership.

Rank
The candidate must be First Class or higher.
Experience
The candidate must have successfuly filled such positions as SPL, ASPL, PL, Troop Guide, or other positions of the Troop Youth Leadership.
Performance Requirements Top
Training
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader must attend the troop Junior Leader Training even if you have attended in the past.
Attendance
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is expected to attend 80% of all troop meetings, Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, outings, and service projects.
Effort
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader are expected to give this job your best effort.
General Leadership Responsibilities Top
Uniform
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader will set the example by wearing his uniform correctly. This means that he will wear all of the parts of the troop uniform, shirttail tucked in, with all required insignia in their correct locations. See the Scout Handbook for standards.
Behavior
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader wil set the example by living the Scout Oath and Law in his everyday life. Show Scout Spirit in everything he says and does.
Attendance
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader will set the example by being an active Scout. He will be on-time for meetings and activities. He must contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster if he is not going to be at a meeting or if he suddenly has to miss an outing. He also needs to make sure that someone will assume his responsibilities in his absence.
Specific Leadership Responsibilities Top
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader will help the Senior Patrol Leader execute meetings and activities.
He will run the troop in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader, serve as a member of the Patrol Leader's Council, and make sure he always knows what he is supposed to do and do it well.
In addition, he will help other youth leaders maintain discipline whenever and wherever possible.
Expectations Top
If the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader does not satisfactorily perform his duties as indicated in the Performance Requirements and in the General and Specific Leadership Responsibilities, he will not receive credit for his time in office.
