Librarian
General Information
Type
The Librarian is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader or elected by members of the troop as desired by the Scoutmaster.

Description
The Librarian takes care of troop literature and records troop attendance.
Comments
The library contains books of historical value as well as current materials. All together, the library is a troop resource worth hundreds of dollars. The Librarian manages this resource for the troop.
Qualifications Top
Rank
The candidate must be First Class or higher, or as approved by the Scoutmaster.
Experience
The candidate must be actively involved in Boy Scout Troop 214.
Performance Requirements Top
Training
The Librarian must attend the troop Junior Leader Training even if he has attended in the past.
Attendance
The Librarian is expected to attend 80% of all troop meetings, Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, outings, and service projects.
Effort
The Librarian is expected to give the job his best effort.
General Leadership Responsibilities Top
Uniform
The Librarian will set the example by wearing his uniform correctly. This means that he will wear all of the parts of the troop uniform, shirttail tucked in, with all required insignia in their correct locations. See the Scout Handbook for standards.
Behavior
The Librarian will set the example by living the Scout Oath and Law in his everyday life. He will show Scout Spirit in everything he says and does.
Attendance
The Librarian will set the example by being an active Scout. He will be on-time for meetings and activities. He must contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster if he is not going to be at a meeting or if he suddenly has to miss an outing. He also needs to make sure that someone will assume his responsibilities in his absence.
Specific Leadership Responsibilities Top
The Librarian sets up and takes care of the troop library.
He keeps records of books and pamphlets owned by the troop and adds new or replacement items as needed.
He keeps books and pamphlets available for borrowing and keeps a system for checking books and pamphlets in and out.
He follows up on late returns and demonstrates initiative and leadership in his position by thinking of new and different ways to improve the troop library and leaving it better than he found it.
He manages Troop forms for outings and elections and records attendance at every troop meeting.
Expectations Top
If the Librarian does not satisfactorily perform his duties as indicated in the Performance Requirements and in the General and Specific Leadership Responsibilities, he will not receive credit for his time in office.
