Chaplain's Aide

The Chaplain's Aide is selected by the Senior Patrol LeaderLeader or elected by members of the troop as desired by the Scoutmaster.

Description
The Chaplain's Aide works with the Troop Chaplain to meet the religious needs of Scouts in the troop. He also works to promote the troop's religious awards program.
Comments
"Duty to God" is one of the core beliefs of Scouting. The Chaplain's Aide helps everyone in the troop by leading the preparation and conduct of short religious observations for campouts, courts of honors, and other functions. He does not always lead the observation himself and can have other troop members help.
Qualifications Top
Rank
The candidate must be First Class or higher, or as approved by the Scoutmaster.
Experience
The candidate must be actively involved in Boy Scout Troop 214.
Performance Requirements Top
Training
The Chaplain's Aide must attend the troop Junior Leader Training even if he has attended in the past.
Attendance
The Chaplain's Aide is expected to attend 75% of all troop meetings, Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, outings, and service projects.
Effort
The Chaplain's Aide is expected to give the job his best effort.
General Leadership Responsibilities Top
Uniform
The Chaplain's Aide will set the example by wearing his uniform correctly. This means that he will wear all of the parts of the troop uniform, shirttail tucked in, with all required insignia in their correct locations. See the Scout Handbook for standards.
Behavior
The Chaplain's Aide will set the example by living the Scout Oath and Law in his everyday life. He will show Scout Spirit in everything he says and does.
Attendance
The Chaplain's Aide will set the example by being an active Scout. He will be on-time for meetings and activities. He must contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster if he is not going to be at a meeting or if he suddenly has to miss an outing. He also needs to make sure that someone will assume his responsibilities in his absence.
Specific Leadership Responsibilities Top
The Chaplain's Aide assists the Troop Chaplain with religious services at troop activities.
He tells Scouts about the religious emblem program for their faith.
He makes sure religious holidays are considered during troop program planning and helps plan for religious observance in troop activities.
He keeps information about scouts who are working toward or have already earned various religious awards in scouting.
He demonstrates initiative and leadership in his position by thinking of new and different ways to improve the troop's religious program by turning over a better program than he inherited and participates in the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC).
He performs other related tasks as directed by the SPL or Scoutmaster.
Expectations Top
If the Chaplain's Aide does not satisfactorily perform his duties as indicated in the Performance Requirements and in the General and Specific Leadership Responsibilities, he will not receive credit for his time in office.
