Quartermaster
General Information
Type
The Quartermaster is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader or elected by members of the troop as desired by the Scoutmaster.

Description
The Quartermaster keeps track of troop equipment, sees that it is in good working order, and provides instructions on its proper use and maintenance.
Comments
The troop equipment includes tents and tarps, gas and hiking stoves, gas lights, kitchen boxes, and much more. The Quartermaster maintains an updated list of all troop and patrol material.
Qualifications Top
Rank
The candidate must be First Class or higher, or as approved by the Scoutmaster.
Experience
The candidate must be actively involved in Boy Scout Troop 214.
Performance Requirements Top
Training
The Quartermaster must attend the troop Junior Leader Training even if he has attended in the past.
Attendance
The Quartermaster is expected to attend 80% of all troop meetings, Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, outings, and service projects.
Effort
The Quartermaster is expected to give the job his best effort.
General Leadership Responsibilities Top
Uniform
The Quartermaster will set the example by wearing his uniform correctly. This means that he will wear all of the parts of the troop uniform, shirttail tucked in, with all required insignia in their correct locations. See the Scout Handbook for standards.
Behavior
The Quartermaster will set the example by living the Scout Oath and Law in his everyday life. He will show Scout Spirit in everything he says and does.
Attendance
The Quartermaster will set the example by being an active Scout. He will be on-time for meetings and activities. He must contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster if he is not going to be at a meeting or if he suddenly has to miss an outing. He also needs to make sure that someone will assume his responsibilities in his absence.
Specific Leadership Responsibilities Top
The Quartermaster works in close collaboration with an Assistant Scoutmaster designated by the Scoutmaster.
He keeps an updated inventory list of all patrol and troop equipment and makes sure that the equipment is in good working condition.
He issues equipment to scouts and ensures that the item(s) is (are) returned in working condition.
He shares ideas with and makes suggestions for new or replacement items or parts to his Assistant Scoutmaster collaborator.
He provides instructions on the use and maintenance of patrol and troop equipment.
He keeps the troop trailer and shed organized and, helped by his Assistant Scoutmaster collaborator, loads the trailer with all necessary equipment and gear before outings such as car camping, camporee, summer camp...
Expectations Top
If the Quartermaster does not satisfactorily perform his duties as indicated in the Performance Requirements and in the General and Specific Leadership Responsibilities, he will not receive credit for his time in office.
